It has been a tough week. Work has really kicked my ass. I wish funders would allow me to design a program that works instead of spending so much time appeasing bureaucracy.
My grandmother may have advanced lung cancer. I will take her to get another CAT scan next week. She is a breast cancer survivor, but I don’t think she will be able to survive lung cancer. My anxiety isn’t so much about death; rather, I am very concerned about the suffering involved in death by lung cancer. I understand that it is one of the worst cancers to have. I know my grandmother would not consider suicide due to her religious beliefs… unfortunately. I am hoping that what was reveled in her last CAT scan turns out to be something other than active cancer.
Jodi and I will be divorcing soon, I think. We have stayed married because it was something like a security blanket… something that made us an official family in spite of all the change over this past decade. Since it has been more than 10 years since I transitioned, we feel more secure about what we mean to each other and who we are to each other. Divorcing feels like moving on in a totally un-bitter and caring way. We both still love each other. We both still refer to each other as being family. We are both (for the most part) heterosexual women… So, it seems like it is high time to get on down the road.
I am really happy about the turn of events with the Houston Homeless Coalition. That has been… YEARS in the making.
I’m happy about the progress of the TG Center and the development of the Community Crossroads Foundation Board.
The individual that had thought that I was an awful person who was out to sabotage their community involvement and I met and discussed everything at it turned out that they had misunderstood a few things and had talked to others who fed their fears and doubts. I feel good to have had a chance to work that situation out. It says a lot about her that she was willing to sit down with me and talk about things. I’ve known many who get stuck in the us against them drama.
I got a big acknowledgement from my job, which was nice. They made a big deal over the work Carolyn and I have been doing. On a side note, Carolyn and I had a audit from the City and passed it just fine.
I am gearing up to roll out advertisement on transhouston. This will NOT be google ads. They tend to be offensive. Instead, this will be a system that will allow advertisers to upload their ads and choose what areas they want to advertise on and then pay without ever having to deal with me. The money raised from ads will be used to support the TG Center.
After the Center is open, I will roll out the paid membership/newsletter portion of transhouston. This will also support the TG Center.
I am getting the hang of ebay now. At the bottom of each page on transhouston is a widget that scrolls through the stuff at the TG Center Resale Shop. Of course, money from the Resale Shop supports the Center too. Right now, I am looking for gently worn large womens shoes and authentic Asian collectables and antique/vintage collectables to sell. Please bring them to the meeting if you want to donate them.
Also, there is a paypal donation button on the Center site: tgctr.org
I am really happy about the Center. I can’t find ANYTHING like this anywhere in the world! The collection of transgender history we have right now is amazing. The Houston TG groups will be meeting in the nicest place available in the community. I can’t wait to get everything rolling.
Also, there is something else that is in the works that is related to the Transgender Day of Remembrance that would be another first ever in the world… It would be truly amazing if it goes through.
I was listening to Danger Mouse the other day and I found out about The Gray Album. This is a mash-up of the Beatles White Album and Jay-Z’s Black Album. It was a project that Danger Mouse did this to promote cultural unity while trying to expand each culture’s musical experience. Danger Mouse did all of this for free and even braved law suites to make the cultural statements. Since I just found about about all of this, I thought I would share it here:
Since I am posting videos, I have to post the best video created in the last 5 years… Interestingly, the video comes from Eminem:
