GOP: The Party of Rape >:(

Cristan

Richard Mourdock:

“I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”

What a stupid fucking statement. You know what’s worse? The National Republican senatorial committee chairman John Cornyn voiced his support for Mourdock and added that he also believes “life is a gift from God.”

And this from Wisconsin state rep Roger Rivard:

“Some girls rape easy.”

Is it important that Paul Ryan endorses this guy?

This is  what Douglas Henry, a Tennessee state senator has to say about rape:

“Rape, ladies and gentlemen, is not today what rape was. Rape, when I was learning these things, was the violation of a chaste woman, against her will, by some party not her spouse.”

Now, consider what Republican hitman Phyllis Schlafly has to say about the reality of marital rape (like unicorns, it doesn’t exist):

“By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don’t think you can call it rape,”

And, of course, there’s Rep. Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin. You know what he said and I don’t need to repeat his stupid, hubris, fundie views here. But, that whole “legitimate rape” cancer isn’t just confined to Akin’s mouth. From South Dakota lawmaker, Bill Napoli:

“A real-life description to me would be a rape victim, brutally raped, savaged. The girl was a virgin. She was religious. She planned on saving her virginity until she was married. She was brutalized and raped, sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it, and is impregnated. I mean, that girl could be so messed up, physically and psychologically, that carrying that child could very well threaten her life.”

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) called the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” a top priority in the then new Congress. That piece of shit legislation tried to redefine rape as being “forcible rape” (as if there’s such a thing as cooperative rape). Oh… and just FYI… Paul Ryan co-sponsored that bill.

I know it’s an inflammatory thing to say, but Republicans are the party of rape in that they are the shade under which rape enjoys a certain social acceptance and protection. I’ve already argued that the GOP is the largest, most effective anti-LGBT organization in our nation and to that I think I should add that it’s also the nation’s largest, most effective anti-woman organization. Only an anti-woman organization says, supports and enshrines into law the type of things Republicans have fought for… for years.

I heard something a couple of years ago that made a lot of sense to me: “Not all Republicans are bigots. However, most bigots are Republican.” and I can’t agree more with that sentiment.
